"With deep pride in our university and full confidence in its future, we look forward to welcoming Dr. Santa Ono back to Gainesville early next week. On Tuesday, the UF Board of Trustees will vote on his candidacy to become the 14th President of the University of Florida. The meeting can be viewed online starting at 10 a.m. at the following link:

"Dr. Ono is one of the most respected academic leaders in the world — a biomedical scientist, scholar, and proven executive who has led some of North America’s most complex and leading institutions. His record of achievement spans innovation, operational excellence, and transformational leadership. He is the right person to accelerate UF’s upward trajectory and help make it the undisputed leader among America’s public universities.

Hopefully the board tanks this

I was under the impression that the information that was not provided during the search was going to derail the selection. Given the fact that Dr. Ono promoted items at MI that are against the law in FL, seems to be an odd choice

I chatted with Lomabradi once on campus while heading to class a long time ago; he was very down-to-earth.

My wife and I were walking to a baseball game and ran into Dr L in the parking lot. We said hi and we spoke for a few minutes. He was dressed in a tux and headed to the club in the south end zone of the stadium to give a speech. He told us he’d much rather be going to the game.

About midway into the game we saw him sitting behind home plate while still dressed in his tux. lol

He was one of a kind in a good way.

Was seated right in front of him (Gator section) @ the 90 UF/FSU game. Very very friendly with our whole section. Don't recall him ever leaving for the skybox/political crap I'm sure he was expected to attend.

Me too! He was only there for about a half. Had his blue blazer on. He moved around a bit in our section to chat up the Gator fans.

Sounds like an academics above all else type

Did you read the letter that’s linked above?

those were just a couple of examples
watch any of his past speeches you’ll feel sick

if you all had any sense of what Jim Ryan has done to the University of Virginia you would be very afraid of a man like this.

I’ve read a number of articles on Dr. Ono…and as a conservative I was concerned about some of the policies that he was responsible for. That said, a friend of mine who is also conservative and was a former Board of Trustees and Board of Governors for Rutgers…an extremely liberal administration. They recently interviewed Ono for their open Presidency and effectively he had no interest in anywhere other than UF. In the interview he was asked many questions regarding decisions made at Michigan…where he was President for a very short time…and he mentioned many times how influential Michigans extremely liberal governor was in policy making…one of the reasons he wanted to move on. DeSantis will also be influential…undoubtedly. My take…Ono was a good choice…he’ll be more centric than most think…and he’s a HUGE supporter of athletic programs…understands their importance to a university’s overall health!

So what changed from his UBC views to his time at UM?

As one national policy expert recently observed: “In less than three years at the helm in Ann Arbor, Ono quietly became one of the most consequential university presidents in the country. Sensing the changing cultural winds, he began steering one of America’s most prestigious public universities back toward sanity. He abolished a sprawling, unconstitutional DEI bureaucracy. He defunded and suspended a student organization that had engaged in anti-Semitic intimidation and civil terrorism. He defended free speech in an increasingly censorious academic environment. And he helped shepherd Michigan athletics into the name, image, and likeness reform era, culminating in a national football championship that brought pride and unity to a campus often consumed by political turmoil.”

Calm down, no way they are bringing someone they can't control...UF will still be as anti-woke as you want. The black and brown kids will still be working overtime to prove they belong...nothing to see here. Feel better now?

Like everything, just gotta let it play out and best to not have pre-conceived notions. That will never happen, but one can dream!

your racism is showing..
1. you are assuming that black and brown kids are put upon AT the university -
2. those perceptions cause white people to expect less of them
Those ideas you’ve just espoused are purely racist- but you think they are ok because it’s against white people. Sad.

Kettle you are black

Without DEI, we KNOW that people must only be judged on their merits. I’m thinking pretty much all the kids at UF these days have to prove they belong.
